Former Manchester United player Teddy Sheringham has strongly criticized Marcus Rashford's public desire to leave the club, stating the forward does not deserve a "dream move" to Barcelona. Sheringham expressed that moving to Barcelona would represent an undeserved "step up" for Rashford, arguing that playing for Manchester United is a privilege that should not be discarded lightly.
Rashford, whose preferred destination is reportedly Barcelona, has been in talks with the Catalan club. His situation at Manchester United has deteriorated significantly; he spent the latter part of last season on loan at Aston Villa after expressing readiness for a "new challenge" in December. Recently, he lost his No.10 shirt to new signing Matheus Cunha and is training away from the first-team squad with other players expected to leave.
Sheringham described Rashford's stance as "very soul-destroying," comparing it unfavourably to his own generation's appreciation for playing at a top club. He referenced Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's similar situation at Arsenal and stated he hopes Rashford does not get the move he wants. Rashford is one of five players, including Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia, excluded from manager Ruben Amorim's pre-season preparations so far.
