Tottenham Hotspur's attempt to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, involving a reported £60million release clause, has encountered significant complications, halting the transfer. Spurs viewed Gibbs-White as a key addition to their summer spending, which included deals for Mohammed Kudus (£55m) and Kota Takai (£5m), aiming for a £120m outlay.
The transfer process stalled abruptly when Nottingham Forest raised serious objections. Forest alleged that Tottenham made an unauthorized approach directly to the player without the club's consent. Furthermore, they claimed that the confidentiality surrounding Gibbs-White's £60million release clause was breached, suggesting Spurs offered exactly that amount to trigger it.
As a result, Forest ceased all communication with Tottenham. Having already sold Anthony Elanga, Forest, under manager Nuno Espirito Santo, were determined not to lose Gibbs-White in the same transfer window. Reports indicate Gibbs-White was scheduled for a medical at Tottenham, but he never travelled to Hotspur Way due to Forest's strong displeasure and direct intervention from owner Evangelos Marinakis, communicated clearly to the player and all parties.
