Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has officially signed his supermax contract extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder, one week after the agreement was announced. The 26-year-old, coming off an MVP season and an NBA championship, is now committed to the Thunder for the foreseeable future as they build towards a potential dynasty.
On July 1, Gilgeous-Alexander reportedly signed a four-year, $285 million extension. This was the maximum contract he could sign this offseason and adds to the two years remaining on his current deal, keeping him with Oklahoma City through the 2030-31 season.
The Thunder officially announced the extension on July 8. Securing their franchise star to a third contract is a significant achievement for the organization, recognized by long-time followers as a challenging feat.
With Gilgeous-Alexander now secured long-term, the Thunder have the opportunity this summer to lock down their core trio, which also includes Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren, to similar long-term deals. Having already secured one of these three players, expectations are that Oklahoma City will be contenders for the NBA title for an extended period.
