The reigning UAAP champion University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons will conduct a training camp in Serbia to prepare for UAAP Season 88. The team, which recently reclaimed the title by defeating La Salle in the finals, departs for Serbia on Sunday.
UP Office of Athletics and Sports Development (OASD) Director Bo Perasol explained that the Serbian camp offers a different perspective on the game, highlighting Serbia's status as a sporting powerhouse despite its small size. He made these remarks during the team's contract signing with Puma.
The camp roster includes team captain Gerry Abadiano and key holdovers Harold Alarcon, Terrence Fortea, Reyland Torres, and Gani Stevens. Perasol also confirmed that players currently under residency, such as former Far Eastern University player Veejay Pre, will participate.
Perasol emphasized that beyond honing skills for their title defense, the camp aims to significantly strengthen the team's conditioning and fitness. He stated that the most crucial benefit for the players will be developing the ability to become "oblivious to fatigue and adversities," aspects deemed critical for deep tournament runs.
