Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has been sidelined for the last two games due to a groin injury sustained during the team's victory over the Seattle Storm last week.
WNBA legend Sue Bird, who attended that game, observed a potential challenge for Clark on offense. Bird noted on her podcast "Bird’s Eye View" that Clark currently has to create most of her own shots while also facilitating for teammates. Bird suggested Clark would benefit significantly from having players around her capable of creating shots for her, allowing her to get open looks off others' actions, and mentioned that newly added player Arie McDonald might help in this area.
Clark was experiencing a shooting slump prior to her injury, scoring only six points on 3-of-13 shooting in the win against Seattle. Her three-point shooting on the road this season has been particularly poor at 1-of-28.
Bird's insights might be valuable for Fever coach Stephanie White to consider upon Clark's return. McDonald, who joined the roster last week after DeWanna Bonner was waived, could potentially assist in creating more opportunities for Clark.
