The Detroit Pistons plan to waive two-way player Ron Harper Jr. this summer, a move reported by HoopsHype's Michael Scotto. This decision is not surprising given Harper's absence from the Pistons' participation in the 2025 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
Harper, a 25-year-old forward who entered the NBA undrafted out of Rutgers in 2022, averaged 16.2 points (including 39% from three-point range), 3.9 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 37 combined G League games last season with the Motor City Cruise and Maine Celtics. He began his career on a two-way deal with the Toronto Raptors, appearing in just nine games over two seasons before being waived in December 2023. After joining the Boston Celtics' offseason program last summer but failing to make their roster, he played for their G League affiliate, the Maine Celtics. The Pistons signed him to a two-way contract in January, but he only appeared in one NBA game for them, spending most of his time with the Motor City Cruise.
To fill the vacant two-way spot created by waiving Harper, the Pistons are adding Colby Jones. Jones is a two-year NBA veteran with nearly 70 games of experience. He started his career with the Sacramento Kings and played 15 games for the Washington Wizards last season, averaging nine points, four rebounds, and three assists during his stint in Washington.
