Max Christie expressed enthusiasm about reuniting with former Los Angeles Lakers teammate D'Angelo Russell on the Dallas Mavericks. Christie immediately contacted Russell upon learning of the reunion, describing him as "one of my closest friends" and praising Russell's game and demeanor.

Russell signed a two-year, $12 million contract with Dallas this offseason, expected to provide backcourt stability while Kyrie Irving recovers from injury. The duo previously built a strong relationship during two seasons together with the Lakers.

Christie joined the Mavericks midway through last season via the trade that sent Luka Dončić to the Lakers and brought Anthony Davis to Dallas. Christie has since secured a key role, averaging 11.2 points and 4.2 rebounds in 32 games, and is projected as Klay Thompson's primary backup at shooting guard.
